Your Role. . .
The Director of Institutional Giving brings a high level of creativity, passion, and leadership to cultivate and steward relationships with foundations and corporations to invest in the Council’s campaigns and programming. This position serves as the primary relationship manager and business development lead for private foundations and corporations. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director will be a thought partner in creating strategic solutions for both corporate and foundation partnerships, and effectively communicating the Council’s value proposition to external stakeholders.
The Director of Institutional Giving produces grant applications and other documents for the Council, working collaboratively with the Development team and Program staff to set and achieve goals, plan strategy, and foundation relationships. Revenue generation and growing the Council’s existing foundation base are key components of this role. This role researches new prospects, builds relationships with corporate and foundation partners, prepares and submits letters of inquiry, grant proposals, budgets, reports, and needed correspondence to meet grant revenue objectives.
Essential Job Functions. . .
- Takes a leadership role in ensuring the Council's success in meeting annual fundraising goals.
- Serves as a key strategy partner with CDO in ensuring the Council's success in meeting its fundraising goals.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive fundraising plan to significantly grow and scale institutional giving (corporations, foundations, organizations), with annual and longer-term goals and objectives, strategies and key activities, performance indicators, and timelines to support the organization's mission and priorities.
- Manages a portfolio of up to 100 institutional relationships, ensuring proper tracking, recognition, and stewardship.
- Makes a minimum of $3 million in new, qualified asks within 12 months.
- Works cross-functionally with the Communications and Brand teams to cultivate and steward the Council’s new business pipeline consistent with the priorities established in the organizational strategic plan and team goals.
- Manages frequent values-driven and customized communications to support partner prospecting, cultivation and stewardship.
- Stays current with trends among the Council’s audiences and draw data-informed insights from various internal and external sources to inform pitches and campaign creation.
- Advises and collaborates with the CDO, Council leadership and staff on strategies, trends, obstacles, and opportunities in revenue generation aligned with our institutional giving strategy.
- Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business administration, sales management, communication, or related discipline. 5 years equivalent in work experience.
- 5+ years of experience in successfully closing six- and seven-figure grants, contributions and/or partnerships from institutional sources.
- Proficiency using fundraising CRMs.
- Expert knowledge of fundraising in a nonprofit environment.
