Job Overview
The Director for Instructional Resources leads the Instructional and Academic Technology Department, providing leadership and vision for all current and future IST-supported instructional and academic applications - for example, further development of the learning management system, lecture capture initiatives, web conferencing as well as Google Apps for Education, and any other applications under the academic umbrella – such as Exam software and Course Evaluation system.
Their leadership also includes directing the implementation of supported technology training programs for faculty, staff and IST colleagues and keeping reports on training initiatives and attendance; and providing escalated technology support to students, faculty and staff as it relates to Instructional and Academic applications.
The Director also leads support for faculty and staff in emergency and inclement weather conditions when instructional and academic technologies application support is needed; and serves as the point person for all Instructional and Academic Applications, as well as with the UIS Educational Technologies group and the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS),
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, the Director for Instructional Relationships supervises members of the Instructional and Academic Technologies team. Interactions include but are not limited to:
Provide leadership and vision for all current and future IST supported instructional and academic applications - for example, further development of the learning management system, lecture capture initiatives, and web conferencing; as well as Google Apps for Education and any other applications under the academic umbrella - such as Exam software and Course Evaluation system, etc.
Direct the implementation of supported technology training programs for faculty, staff and IST colleagues, keep reports on training initiatives and attendance; and provide escalated technology support to students, faculty and staff as it relates to Instructional and Academic applications
Lead the support for faculty and staff in emergency and inclement weather conditions, in which instructional and academic technologies application support is needed; and serve as the point person for all Instructional and Academic Applications, as well as with the UIS Educational Technologies group and CNDLS
Maintain the department’s Training and Support website and provide support for all other Academic applications - such as Exam software, Course Evaluation
Continue to build a partnership between IST and the Law Center academic community
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree - preference for Master’s degree - in instructional technology or technology related field
8+ years of relevant experience in academic/instructional technology, including admin level support and implementation of academic/instructional applications in a higher education environment
Ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Availability during after-hours
Given its key role in the support of our academic mission, this is an emergency-designated position requiring availability during after-hours
Preferred qualifications
Thorough knowledge of cloud-based Learning Management Systems
Experience with Canvas, lecture capture software (e.g., Panopto), web conferencing, and/or Zoom
Management experience - especially in a Higher Ed environment
Experience in developing and running Instructional Technology training programs
