Job Overview

The Acquisitions Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day acquisitions operations in the Content Acquisitions and Management Department. The incumbent ensures that resources are ordered and received in a timely manner, guarantees that financial data is directed to the appropriate departments, and serves as a source of acquisitions information to the Collection Development Committee (CDC). The incumbent assists the Head of Content Acquisitions and Management with analyzing policies and procedures and helping maintain the integrity of ordering data within the library services platform.

Work Interactions

Under the supervision of the Head of Content Acquisitions and Management, this position ensures that acquisitions operations are carried out effectively. In doing so, the Acquisitions Coordinator plays a significant role in maintaining the integrity and currency of the law library’s sizable collection. Within the department, this position serves as an information resource on most matters relating to acquisitions, which includes directing all firm and continuing resource orders for materials in all formats, troubleshooting receiving issues, claiming orders not received in a timely manner, and communicating with vendors. As a member of the CDC, this position provides practical acquisition knowledge crucial to the group’s decision-making process.

This position has no direct reports, but will field questions from others in the department and/or the library about issues related to the receipt of newly acquired materials in all formats.

In addition to the departmental interactions, this position interacts with staff throughout the library by serving on library committees and through collaborations on inter-departmental functions.

Requirements and Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma and 3-5 years of library experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of standard library practices and procedures.

  • Understanding of acquisitions functions and library services platforms.

  • Familiarity with spreadsheet, database, and cloud-based document storage applications.

  • Strong oral, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Experience with library acquisitions.

  • Knowledge of legal electronic resources.

  • Knowledge of law and/or legal materials.

  • Familiarity with the ExLibris Alma library services platform.
